The British Film Festival in Dinard is amongst the most well-known and popular in France. This 19th year of the festival sees 40 films showing over 4 days, with over 22 000 people coming to see them.
Palais des Arts et du Festival 2, boulevard Wilson 35800 Dinard
The Festival represents an exceptional showcase for British cinema in France, with many actors, directors and producers coming in person to present their films.
Six brand-new films will compete for the Hitchcock d'Or prize, awarded by a jury led by the French actor Lambert Wilson. Several films will be shown in avant-premiere, including The Duchess directed by Saul Dibb, as well as a hommage to the English director, Hugh Hudson. The festival also features a retrospective on Daphne du Maurier, whose work has often been adapted to film (Rebecca and The Birds, by Alfred Hitchcock, and Don't Look Now, by Nicolas Roeg).
In a pilot programme for the arts we have invited British Council offices in other countries to nominate film professionals and practioners to attend this showcase, and 2008 will again see several participants from other European countries attending.
