A three day showcase of the best in innovative contemporary British dance
Ville de RoubaixYou missed itUKMoves in Roubaix offers three days’ total immersion in the originality and creativity of British dance today.

The event focuses on the vitality of ideas shown by choreographers from across the Channel. Always ready to transgress established codes, to integrate other art forms, to explore new territories, they continue to reinvent the scene.

The organisers

‘UKMOVES is a British Council initiative organised in collaboration with the Centre Chorégraphique National Roubaix Nord-Pas de Calais in partnership with other cultural organisations: le Garage/Théâtre de l’Oiseau Mouche, la Condition Publique, Danse à Lille, le Musée La Piscine et l’Office de Tourisme of Roubaix.

About 100 artists from 15 companies will be present, some of whom like Jonathan Burrows et Matteo Fargion, Rosemary Butcher, Wendy Houston, Bock and Vicenzi, Walker Dance Park Music, Eddie Ladd, Charles Linehan, New Art Club and Rosemary Lee already enjoy international reputations whilst others like  Anna Krzystek, Colin Poole, Frauke Requardt, Dog Kennel Hill Project, Anushiye Yarnell and Laila Diallo are new talents waiting to be discovered.

An exhibition of one of the most exciting and important photographers specialising in British dance, Chris Nash, is another reflection of the richness and diversity of the UK dance scene.

Over and above being a true partnership between the British Council and important French cultural structures, this platform is an occasion to bring together in Roubaix some ninety dance professionals from all over Europe presenting new shows. In presenting seminars on 'Community' and 'Integrated' dance.UKMOVES will illustrate that the vitality of choreography in the UK is also a result of its strong implication in social issues and espeically the work carried out in these fields

Dancer and MusicianWhy is it taking place in Roubaix, France ?

Following Zagreb et Vilnius, the choice for the next British showcase fell naturally on Roubaix for the vitality of the partnerships offered and the quality of the technical equipment in these revitalised cultural spaces : le Garage/Théâtre de l’Oiseau Mouche, la Condition Publique, Danse à Lille, le Musée La Piscine et l’Office de Tourisme. The artists will bring their « British touch » to all the above venues!
How to participate

UKMoves is a European platform event and will attract many professionals from the Dance and Performing Arts fields across Europe. Still, it is part of the normal yearly programme of the Roubaix venues involved.
