Anish Kapoor is one of the most influential sculptors of his generation. The British Council has long been a supporter of his work and we hold 26 sculptures and prints in our Collection – often described as our ‘museum without walls’ as it has no permanent gallery and is available to everyone, everywhere. The British Council recently collaborated with Anish Kapoor over his first-ever exhibition in India, and we are proud to be associated with his ‘monumental’ creation Leviathan for this year’s Monumenta exhibition in the impressive nave of the Grand Palais.
The British Council is committed to developing sustainable relationships with French and European partners who together will support and help shape the future of art and culture. In addition to our work with established artists such as Anish Kapoor, we also give priority to supporting emerging artists and new art forms; the way in which the arts reflect the diversity of our societies; and how artistic projects can bring together different audiences and communities.
In our commitment to these aims, we are proud to be a partner in the ‘Monumenta’’ outreach project designed to reach out to different and diverse audiences in Paris and Ile de France. A series of creative workshops is taking place with local community groups throughout the duration of the exhibition, with the aim of building confidence and increasing awareness of and access to arts and culture.
You can find out more about these projects on our new blog, Keep In Touch!
