Enganing Science Grants Workshop
This free workshop will provide information on the Wellcome Trust Engaging Science grant schemes, including an overview of the grants programme, the aims and objectives of the awards, and details of the application and review process. As well as finding out how to produce an appropriate grant application, there will be opportunities to exchange ideas and develop partnerships and collaborations. Deadline for registration is 21 November 2008.

Science Communication Conference
22 & 23 June 2009
The Science Communication Conference 2009, organised by the BA in partnership with the Wellcome Trust, will take place in central London on 22 & 23 June. The Conference will have a central focus - ‘Behaviour and Choice’ exploring the role that science communicators should or could play as influencers of behavioural change. The deadline for submitting a session idea is 21 November 2008.

Call for Proposals British Council Darwin Now Awards
Are you a researcher, artist or writer, interested in the natural world and have a small-scale project you want to develop outside the UK? The British Council Darwin Now awards offer small grants to allow individuals working in the sciences, humanities, arts and media, the opportunity to pursue a stand-alone piece of fieldwork/research outside the UK. The deadline for applications is 5 December 2008.

The Big Science Read
Big Science Read is coming towards its finale – and there are some great author and writing events across Greater Manchester in the coming weeks. For instance, Chris Turney’s talking about his book “Ice, Mud and Blood: Lessons from Climates Past” and Michael Boulter’s exploring and explaining “Darwin’s Garden” as well, just in time for Darwin200.

Ingenious: engaging citizens; engaging engineers awards
Ingenious provides funding for engineers to enhance their public engagement skills and take part in debate with the public and other stakeholders on engineering and its impact on society. Two streams of funding are available; Public Engagement Fellowships and Public Engagement Activities and Development awards. The deadline for applications is 5 December 2008.

Public Engagement Awards
1 March 2009 and 28 February 2010

BBSRC is offering funds of up to £5000 to support BBSRC-sponsored researchers, BBSRC-sponsored institutes and BBSRC local coordinators to undertake public engagement activities between 1 March 2009 and 28 February 2010. Priority will be given to applications that focus on dialogue with public groups, particularly adults and hard-to-reach groups. To celebrate Darwin's 200th anniversary they also wish to encourage applications that address evolution. The application deadline is 14 January 2009.
