In addition to the formal science communication courses offered by some UK universities and colleges, several short training courses and workshops are also available.

British Psychological Society - Media training courses
Two courses are available: An introduction to working with the media, which is designed as an introduction to basic PR and media relations, and Broadcast interview skills, aimed at those who expect to be interviewed by the broadcast media.

Graphic Science
Based at the University of the West of England, the Graphic Science unit aims to communicate science to various audiences using innovative means. It offers a series of short science communication workshops, including: 'Meet the scientist', 'Crouching Scientist, Hidden Talent', 'Communicating Chemistry', Public Dialogue Workshop, Communicating Science Workshop, 'Talking Physics' and 'Creative Pathways'.

The Royal Society - Science communication workshops
The UK's independent academy of science. It offers one-day communication skills courses and one day media training courses designed exclusively for scientists. These are tutored by journalists and communications professionals, Judith Hann and John Exelby.

Introduction to the News Media
These sessions are run by the Science Media Centre. They introduce some basic skills concepts, answer questions and explain why it is so important for scientists to engage with the news media. The events are aimed at news journalists, science correspondents and scientists. The events are extremely popular and are now an annual fixture in the Science Media Centre's calendar.
