Everything started when I participated in 2000 at the English Speaking Union through the British Council in Rabat. I was selected to represent Morocco in London for the public Speaking debate. What an experience!!!! There were people from all over the world. The competition was challenging. Each participant was outstanding.
UK is an amazing place with its beautiful architecture, its nice people and its incredible traditions "the 4:00 o’clock Tea time!!" I stayed in London nine days; I met different people. Back to Morocco I kept in touch with most of the participants especially two judges of the competition: Sonia and Jim Chance. They are so wonderful. In 2002 I invited them to come visit me in Morocco; they were excited by the idea. They definitely did; they stayed in my house nine days. We spent wonderful moments; we visited most of the places in Morocco namely the British Council in Rabat where I was trained before departing to London in 2000.
The second opportunity I had through the British Council is right after Graduation from the University Hassan II in Mohammedia, I decided to take the CELTA (Certificate of English Language teaching to Adults) I spent the whole month of July 2002 at the British Council studying and being trained by the best professors from UK Universities namely the most famous one: Cambridge University. Not only I was well formed for my teaching future but I also had such a great time with the British Council Staff who were helpful, lovable and reliable.Having that certificate I automatically get my first teaching job with a language school.
Two years after, in 2004, I was selected as a Fulbright teacher in the United States for one academic year. Now I am still in Texas where I teach French, Arabic and Moroccan Culture at Austin College. Last spring, I had the chance to participate in a conference at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
I am going back to Morocco on May the 16 2005, convinced of one thing is to convey to people how much the English Language and the British Council helped me achieving what I want to do in life. I believe that these programmes realized by the British council should be vehemently encouraged to consolidate the cultural heritage and lay down the foundations of an authentically universal culture based on the values of dialogue, co-existence and mutual respect.
Thanks for being so helpful!
