1. Best of UK Night @ Southern Pocket Film Festival 2010—Meeting with the Legendary British Film Producer NIK POWELL
In September 2010, the British Council brings the best UK short films to Chinese audiences in the Southern Pocket Film Festival. Seven short films will be screened and the legendary British Film producer NIK POWELL will attend the “Best of UK Night” to share his expertise and stories in the UK film industry. 1. Charlie Chaplin Modern Summer Times
For this year’s Broadway Cinematheque Moma Open-Air Cinema Season, we have selected five of Charlie Chaplin’s most representative films: City Lights, Modern Times, The Great Dictator, A King in New York, The Gold Rush. All will be screened from original prints. The screenings will be held in the small square in front of the main cinema building.For the opening, the audience will get the chance to enjoy Chaplin’s classic City Lights alongside a perfect musical accompaniment provided by Chinese top Jazz band ”Xia Jia Trio”. 2. Best of British Animation Awards Vol 7
British Council proudly presents the best of the British Animation Awards Vol 7. The British Animation Awards (BAA) covers all aspects of the UK animation scene, from student work to commercials, children's entertainment, short and experimental art films, music videos, new technologies, script-writing and craftsmanship. 3. 2nd Annual European Union Film Festival in China
Following the great success of the first Annual EU Film Festival in China, held in Beijing in December 2008, the 2nd Annual EU Film Festival in China took place from 5 November to 4 December 2009. This year the film festival was expanded and took place in two cities: Beijing and Chengdu. The film festival, which was financed by the Delegation of the European Commission to China and supported by the Swedish Presidency, invited all 27 EU Member States to showcase one recent, popular and successful film, and such a wide and diverse selection enabled the Chinese general public to discover the new faces of European cinema. 4. The 12th Shanghai International Film Festival Student Shorts Award Announced
The 12th Shanghai International Film Festival Student Shorts Award was announced on 21 June in Shanghai Wanda International Camera. British Council Film Department selected 10 shorts for this competition, two of which were stand out from over 600 works and selected for the final round competition. Hyebin Lee’s Cherry On the Cake received Best Animation and Sally Pearce’s Elephants received Best Creative Idea from final five awards competition. Please click here to read more.

5. Scottish Cinema of Dreams in China
The first Scottish Film Festival in China featured 12 Scottish films at the China Film Archive and the Beijing Film Academy in March 2009. Each screening was introduced in person by the Festival curator and producer Mark Cousins and Oscar winner Tilda Swinton. The British Council Film Department recently interviewed Mark Cousins. 6. First Annual European Union Film Festival in China
From December 1 to December 20, 2008, the first annual European Union Film Festival in China was held in Beijing during the French presidency of the European Union. This event was co-organized and co-financed by the Delegation of the European Commission to China and the French Embassy in Beijing. All 24 movies were shown once only, with screenings at the Centre Culturel Français (French Cultural Center), the Instituto Cervantes (Cervantes Institute), the Instituto Italiano di Cultura (the Italian Institute of Culture) and the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art. 7. UK Shorts Night@2008 Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival
In December 2008, the British Council brought the best UK creative short films to Chinese audiences in the Guangzhou International Documentary Film Festival – “UK Shorts Night”.  Fifteen award-winning UK animations, fictions and documentary short films will be screened, including selected works from British Animation Awards and Blank Slate'02, many of which have been nominated or won international awards. British director Finlay Pretsell was also invited to attend, to show his experimental documentary film Standing Start, screened in many international film festivals, and share his inspirations and techniques in making films. 8. International Young Screen Entrepreneur (IYSE) award
In 2008 the British Council presented the International Young Screen Entrepreneur (IYSE) award for the second time, to champion and celebrate the importance of creative entrepreneurs working in the film and television sector. The China region result was announced on 18 June at Shanghai International Film Festival. The winner Ms. E.T from Beijing Filmblog is the curator of China New Film: Yunnan Project.
