He will return to China in September 2011 to complete his work at the 12th Changchun Sculpture Symposium and to deliver a Keynote Lecture on Public Art/Urban Regeneration projects at the World Sculpture Conference in Changchun. The Ministry of Culture of the Peoples Republic of China and China National Guiding Committee for Urban Sculpture Construction has organized this Conference with the support of Wu Weishan, The President of the China Academy of Sculpture.

This five-year long project, as Lead Artist, involved Atkin becoming an embedded part of an Interdisciplinary Design Team (IDT) working alongside Landscape Architects, Urban Designers and Highway Engineers to create a new streetscape for the town of Ashford in Kent. Collaborating with experts in shared-space urban regeneration schemes, Atkin discreetly deployed ideas of Ashford’s culture and history into a series of innovative designs for street furniture as well as roundabouts and terraces. The scheme has won many Awards and has received visits from Landscape Architects & Urban Designers from around the world.
