Lesson Plans - Keystage 3
Ideas to help you with a variety of lessons at Keystage 3.

This on-line support is provided by the British Council.

We recommend you take a look at the lesson plans below which should give you some new ideas.

Adjective Addiction  Using adjectives, as we all know, literally brings colour to language. Gender and consequently adjectival agreement are important concepts for pupils to grasp in French, German and Spanish. As with much in language learning, practice really does make perfect, so here are some ideas for beginning students, although they are easily adapted for older pupils.

Building Sentences  One of the things that assistants find is that pupils have difficulties putting words and verbs together to build sentences at KS4. Here are some ideas to help at KS3 to set pupils on their way to creating language for themselves.

Building Sentences II  An update to the ideas mentioned above.

Karaoke - Using Songs  Using songs in your lessons can be very motivating. It is important to choose the song and lyrics carefully. This lesson plan gives you ideas of how to use the lyrics to practise language.

Memory Games  Pupils will often tell you that they cannot remember words or sentences. Research tells us that we need to hear and see new language twelve times before we remember it. That is quite a lot!

Poetry Workshop  It is important to encourage pupils to be creative with language from an early stage. Using target language poems in your sessions can help with the sound/spelling relationship and with pronunciation.

Pronunciation and Intonation  Key Stage Three is the time when pupils learn how to say words for the first time. As FLAs you can help them to learn how to say the words correctly and have some fun in the process.

Thinking Skills  Sometimes by altering a common task you can make the pupils think a little more before they find the answer.
