Qualification recognition

If you want to work, study, or carry out any research in the UK, you may need to confirm that your qualifications are recognised here. Below you'll find information on degree classification and equivalence, and also information on the basic qualifications needed to train or work in the UK.

Checking equivalence
Exam bodies will give you information on recognition of their exams in the UK, from education institutions, professional bodies, employers or government departments. Exam bodies will also inform you of any equivalence or placement on qualification frameworks. Other sources of information on equivalence and recognition in the UK and worldwide are the ENIC and NARIC networks, UK NARIC and UK NRP.

International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate was created as an international qualification for students aged between 16 and 18 at schools around the world. It is accepted as an entry qualification for higher education by most countries, including the UK. Three subjects must be offered at A-level equivalent standard and three at AS-level equivalent during this two-year course. Students must also complete an extended essay on one subject and take part in a course on the theory of knowledge, as well as extra-curricular activities. Award of the diploma depends on the student gaining at least 24 points from these subjects.
