For international education
Tony Blair launched his Prime Minister’s Initiative (PMI) for International Education on 18 April 2006. The Initiative is a new five year strategy which will build on the success of the first PMI 1999-2004 to secure the UK’s position as a leader in international education and sustain the managed growth of UK international education delivered both in the UK and overseas.

PM Takes Up the Initiative on International Education
The Prime Minister’s new Initiative was launched at two high-profile events, alongside other measurements to support the UK’s international education agenda and backed by a combined £27 million in funding.
The Four Strands of the New PMI Strategy
The new PMI has a broader remit than its predecessor: International student recruitment remains a key strand, but work will also be done to enhance the UK experience for international students and more education partnerships between the UK and other countries will be encouraged.

The launch of the second phase of the PMI for International Education attracted headlines in the domestic and international news media and was welcomed by the education sector.
The Education UK Brand – Refreshed and Ready for Action!
The Education UK brand, originally developed as a key component of the first PMI, has been completely refreshed to ensure that it remains up-to-date and relevant to the UK education offer and its international audiences.
Redesigned Education UK website launched
With the arrival of the updated Education UK brand comes a new-look Education UK website. The site has been completely redesigned to reflect the refreshed brand through its appearance, structure and content.
International Students Shine in the Spotlight
The 12 finalists of the International Student Awards 2006 attended the Downing Street launch of the new PMI where they all met the Prime Minister Tony Blair. It was a great experience for all – only topped by the final Awards Ceremony the following week!
