The British Council would like to invite UK institutions to take part in a Science Week taking place in Thailand between 9 and 13 August 2009.
Science Week is a series of activities designed to provide opportunities for UK institutions to showcase their innovation and excellence in science at the Thailand National Science and Technology Fair, the biggest science-related event in Thailand, and to meet with UK alumni, science academics, researchers and science students.
The Thailand National Science and Technology Fair 2009, organised by the Ministry of Science and Technology and its partners, including other ministries and related organisations, takes place from 8 to 23 August 2009 at the Impact Exhibition and Convention Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. The fair annually attracts a million visitors.
At the National Science and Technology Fair this year, the British Council will be setting up the 'Darwin Now' Exhibition to celebrate the bicentenary of the birth of Charles Darwin and the 150th anniversary of the publication of his ground-breaking book, On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection.
The British Council management fee includes:
- a three metres by three metres space with university name and logo in the National Science and Technology Fair 2009 to display / showcase their innovation and excellence in science
- the opportunity to deliver a workshop / seminar to students, lecturers and researchers during the National Science and Technology Fair 2009
- a university profile published in a 'Science Study' leaflet for distribution during the workshop and at the British Council exhibition area within the National Science and Technology Fair 2009
- a visit to science faculties at two universities in Bangkok to give a public lecture to students or run a workshop with researchers / Â lecturers
- the opportunity to reach a wide range of Thai media, including television and print; as this is the biggest event run by the Ministry of Science and Technology, it attracts considerable media attention; a press release featuring a profile of your institution will also be sent to over 20 British Council media contacts
- the opportunity to join / conduct a seminar on science subjects at the British Council office and meet with UK alumni and young professionals interested in or working in the field of science.
This event is now closed for applications.
If you are unable to participate in the Science Week but are still interested in raising your institution's profile in science study, you may book an 'institution profile page' as part of the Science Study leaflet. The cost for this is:
- Partnership members: GBP 300
- All other institutions: GBP 600
The leaflet will be produced in Thai and English and will give information about studying science in the UK. Ten thousand leaflets will be distributed during the fair and to faculties of science and science students. Please complete the leaflet booking form (41KB) to book a place in the leaflet.
We hope very much that this will be a great opportunity to showcase the excellence of science education in the UK and to network with researchers and universities in Thailand. UK institutions are welcome to stay for the whole period of the Thailand National Science and Technology Fair 2009.
