Update 27 October 2009: Please note that the workshop will take place on 15 to 16 March 2010, not 14 to 15 March 2010.
The inaugural Education UK Roadshow in 2008 was well received by both local institutions and participating UK universities. We saw a total of 800 students and eight UK institutions participating in the event. Visits to four junior colleges / high schools proved fruitful for the participants: the event provided them with the opportunity to speak to the right audience and network with the school counsellors.
A similar event that was planned to happen in July 2009 saw a 40 per cent increase in the number of UK participants. Unfortunately, the event did not take place because of swine flu.
We are scaling up the 2010 event, aiming to attract a larger number of students, visiting more schools and hosting more UK institutions. Participants can expect more from this year’s event at similarly low cost. This will include visits to two junior colleges, a specialised school and an international school.
We will also be organising a one-day static exhibition, targeting both the undergraduate and postgraduate markets and providing opportunities for UK providers and local providers offering UK degrees to participate. The exhibition will provide participants with a channel to reach out to potential students who are not in schools.
Following the exhibition, there will be a two-day wrap-around / optional workshop.
The concept was introduced in 2009 for our key contacts, which included 80 career counsellors, teachers, scholarship-awarding agencies and agents. The workshop aimed to update key people on the processes relating to undergraduate studies in the UK; and in return these people would be able to share this knowledge with their students/contacts that will approach them for this information.
With the same concept for this year's workshop, we hope to achieve greater impact by getting participants involved. We hope to add value to your visit by providing you with a channel to network and an opportunity for presentation and discussion of areas such as issues around UK higher education, applications, recruitment and marketing with key contacts in Singapore.
We will hold two separate sessions of the workshop over two days. The event comes at no cost and is open to all UK institutions who participate in the Roadshow and Exhibition.
For more information about the workshop, please contact Jason Gan, British Council Singapore.
