READING CHALLENGE

Quest Seekers is the title of this year’s edition of the annual Reading Challenge.  Following the success of last year’s sports-themed edition, The Big Wild Read, this year we will be launching Quest Seekers.

About Quest Seekers

Quest Seekers will take you to some extraordinary places. It's an amazing fantasy theme with a firebird, a giant and fire-breathing dragon, and you can be a part of it, too!

We want you to join Belle, Louis and Raj -the Quest Seekers- in their search for the golden book.

The aim of the Reading Challenge is to get children to read six books from our library over the academic year. Children are given a membership card and keep track of the books they read on a special fold-out poster, collecting some fun stickers along the way.

With Quest Seekers, all kids can join in at the British Council library, and their coaches (the librarians) will help children maximise their reading potential. Research shows that children who take part in the Reading Challenge go to school energised and eager to learn, often with a renewed enthusiasm for reading and all the advantages it offers.

How do they take part?

When they go to the library – either with their group or individually the librarian will give them a Quest Seekers membership card and/or a fold-out poster to take home.

What books should they read?

They can be any books they like – stories, fact books, picture books, joke books – it’s up to them.  As long as they are borrowed from the library, they will count towards your total. We won’t put any limits to the level or the topic, unless they do it as a class project and the teacher wants to set the minimum requirements.

Do they get anything if they finish the challenge?

Everybody gets a certificate, a medal and a prize-giving party with their parents and other fellow winners.

Are any other countries doing Quest Seekers?

Yes, 28 different countries around the world are joining in with Quest Seekers, thanks to the British Council.  So look out for messages from children in far off places!

As well as helping children discover the pleasure and excitement of reading, this initiative encourages them to read and discuss books in a lively and engaging manner. See Barbara or Julen for more information and get your students involved next year.
