PROJECT OUTLINE

This project used PowerPoint presentations to introduce the young children in Scotland and France to each other. It was realised that A is for Annanhill and B is for Boudonville and so an alphabetical  theme followed. Soft toys, Hamish and Boule de Neige (Snowball), give the children the idea of a new ‘pupil’, whom they had to introduce to different situations in their everyday lives.

USE OF ICT WITHIN THE PROJECT

We have used PowerPoint quite often, as it was straightforward to use with young pupils. Once a new presentation was opened, new slides could be added easily, and if photographs were named in files, it made it simple for the children to choose the ones they wanted. They also enjoyed typing in text.

The children learned how to takes photographs with the digital camera and also how to film using the digital video camera. They were also able to choose the order that the clips would be put in and dragged and dropped them on the timeline in iMovie. This was done on the interactive whiteboard, and the children really enjoyed doing this. I’m sure when they are asked to do this again in the future, they will remember how to do it because their first experience was active and they were all involved.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

The greatest gain for the students was finding out about the children in the partner school as well as about their homes and their town. We used Google Earth and Flash Earth to find out where Kilmarnock was in relation to Scotland and where Scotland is in relation to France.

I have benefited from this project in that it has given me an excellent opportunity to put into practice a cross-curricular project. My expertise has grown and I am able to encourage teachers in my own school as well as other schools in East Ayrshire to participate in eTwinning.

WHAT THE JUDGES SAID

“This is an example of eTwinning with some of our youngest learners helping to develop the skills of students and teachers alike”
“Excellent use of a simple tool with a group who would benefit most”
