PROJECT OUTLINE

A toy bear journey between Special Needs children. Maurice the bear spends a month in each school, recording video, pictures etc.. which can then be shared.

USE OF ICT WITHIN THE PROJECT

The pupils have enjoyed the process which has supported Maurice’s journey. They have been engaged in the use of digital recording either for video or pictures. Seeing the end result has been exciting for them.  Using the internet to download the messages from the schools has given a purpose to the use of the ICT. They have also been encouraged to use the Internet to find out more about the countries in which the other schools are set. As part of Creative Partnerships in school, pupils have had training in the use of the digital cameras and in film making.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

Special education can be very isolated particularly in countries where it is divorced from the main education authorities. This is truly about working across Europe in a collaborative way, sharing ideas and practices in the field of severe and profound disabilities. One of the subtexts is to discover what really happens to these pupils in countries which claim to have full inclusion but do not provide for all  children. There is clearly much more to be developed from the initial project.
