What is the women MPs exchange programme?
This project aim's at promoting effective representative women leaders, it is a regional campaign on women and leadership. The British Council's "Politics of the Future" project, aims to establish links between Ethiopian women members of parliament and the UK members of parliament through exchange programmes of women MPs in both countries.
To date, four of Ethiopia’s most distinguished women MPs, Hon. Dr. Ethiopia Beyene, Hon. Asmaru Birihun, Hon. Shitaye Minale and Hon. Meselech Wodajo shadowed UK MPs in England and Wales. From the UK Parliament four UK Women MP's  Hon. Julie Morgan, Hon. Sally Keeble and Hon. Sandra Gidley all visited Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian MPs were also participants in the regional Member of Parliament meeting held in Kenya and Uganda.

Who are our partners?
These shadowing visits were organised by the British Council and co-funded by the British Embassy.

What are the aims of the exchange programmes?
The exchange programmes are aimed to give Ethiopian Women MPs the opportunity to strengthen links and share experiences with their UK counterparts. Specifically to enable to gain advice on how to address issues affecting their societies and share experiences in the conduct of the Parliament.
