English Language Improvement Programme - ELIP
ELIP
English Language Improvement Programme

Supported by major donors like DfID and SIDA, the Ethiopian Ministry of Education has launched a programme to improve the level and methodology of English language teaching in state schools and teacher education institutions. Starting from the inception of the project in 2002, British Council facilitated a number of consultancy visits from the UK under the auspices of ELIP, and since April 2004 a lead consultant to ELIP has been appointed and based at the Ministry.

Currently British Council is managing a project on behalf of the College of St Mark and St John in a bid to train 150 Key English Language Training Advisors/KELTAs/ at a Post Graduate Certificate level. The programme aims to reach 170, 000 school teachers with a cascading approach.
