British Council India
Policy makers and Partners

British Council aims to provide all English language teachers and students of English language in India with quality resources they need from the UK.

To achieve this vision, we work with state governments, civil society organisations and corporate foundations. This enables us to reach state teachers, trainers and teacher-trainers and also contribute in raising the standards of English language teaching and learning in the country. Our offer includes teacher trainings, resources and professional development opportunities that are specifically adapted to the local educational context and needs of the end-beneficiaries.

Policy Dialogues and Think Tanks

Through the Policy Dialogues and think tanks, we offer stakeholders a platform for sharing models of best practice, knowledge and experience in English language teaching and learning.

Following on from the success and recommendations from the three Policy Dialogues on English, we have instituted one think tank on Continuous Professional Development of English teachers which has already resulted in a bibliography on the topic. We are also planning a series of think tanks on:

•Curriculum Reform and Renewal in a Multilingual Context
•Pre-service Training for English Language Teachers and Trainers
•Teacher Education
•Change Management

If you are interested in contributing to the thinking on any of these issues, please write to Debanjan.Chakrabarti@in.britishcouncil.org
