Shared Interest in climate
In March, young scientists from India and the UK come together in Chennai to network and collaborate.

Realising that Climate Change is one of the biggest challenges mankind and its impact will affect us all, it is necessary to promote networking of young research scientists to help stimulate and accelerate innovation towards sustainable research collaboration.

The India-UK Young Scientists Networking Conference, on Low Carbon Technologies and Energy Forms, managed by the British Council, aims to providing a forum for exchange of scientific knowledge and information.

The Conference, to be held in Chennai on 23 and 24 March 2009 and part of British Council’s Low Carbon Futures initiative, is specifically targeted at practising young UK and Indian scientists, University Research Fellows of the Royal Society or equivalent award winning scientists or scientists with outstanding research publications and exceptionally bright individuals pursuing research work in premier national laboratories.

The applicants should be between 25 to 40 years of age and have post-doctoral research  experience in any premier national institution. The applicants should identify and provide all details of a partner (less than 40 years of age) in UK/ India, as the case may be.

Following the conference, the participating scientists need to outline key outcomes of the discussions and the plans for joint collaboration.

The participating Indian scientists/their organisations should also host a professional visit by their counterpart UK scientists/ collaborators for a few days following the conference.

The two-day conference, planned in Chennai during 23 and 24 March 2009, will offer a unique opportunity for about 30-35 young scientists (of which up to 12 will come from the UK) to network, share research interests and develop one to one new partnerships.

The conference will focus on five key areas of research:

Photovoltaic technology and solar energy
Fuel cells and hydrogen energy
Bio energy including biomass technologies and biogas
LED (light emitting diode) lighting technology
Energy efficiency.
