Cafe Scientifique

We promote awareness amongst the public about the relevance of science and innovation to culture and social well-being.

Café Scientifique is a place where anyone can come to discuss the latest ideas in science and technology over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine!

Cafe Scientifique provides a unique forum for the discussion of topical and thought provoking scientific issues in a way that is much more relaxed, informal and accessible than a public lecture. The first Cafe Scientifique in Britain was held in Leeds in 1998. Today it is a global network of events held in cafes, bars or bookshops. Cafe Scientifique tackles a wide range of issues relating to science, technology and society. Participants can offer their opinion, ask questions or just listen. You don’t have to be a scientist to talk about science. Everybody is welcome! Café Scientifique is organised together with Science Centre AHHAA. We have already held events on:
nanotechnology,
alternative medicine,
GM plants,
consciousness,
space,
designer babies,
toxicology and climate change,
biological clocks,
the physics of rock guitar,
neurogenetics and nanobioscience
.
