BRITISH ANTARCTIC SURVEY
CAFE SCIENTIFIQUE
Why should climate change in the Polar regions concern us all?

On 1 December, 5 pm, Kloostri Ait, Tallinn

Polar regions are a barometer of the health of the planet. Physical changes to these regions have a host of potential impacts worldwide. In this Cafe we will examine the history of climate change science and current evidence of its impact. Greenhouse gas emissions alter the global ecoysystem through a number of negative and positive feedbacks. What are their potential consequences to biological communities and to human society?

Come listen to Antarctic scientist Geraint Tarling describe how the British Antarctic Survey is monitoring these changes, in order to predict the future state of our planet.

Geraint Tarling is a Biological Oceanographer and Head of the Ecosystems Dynamics team in the Biosciences division of the British Antarctic Survey. The remit of the team is to consider the effect of environmental variability and climate change on the biological communities of Antarctica. The Division consists of a broad range of scientists including physical and biological oceanographers, avian, cetacean and pinniped (seal and sea-lion) ecologists, mathematical modellers and geneticists.
