Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT)
Teacher Training with the option of taking the University of Cambridge Teaching Knowledge Test – TKT

The TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) is administered by Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and it’s aimed at those who teach English as a second language but do not have a formal certificate to do so. The test’s aim is to assess your knowledge to cover the principles of communicative language teaching. TKT has three core modules. These can be taken together in one exam session or separately, in any order, over three sessions. Each module costs 120 BsF.

What is Teaching Development Course – TKD ?

This is a teacher development programme that provides hands-on experience of a range of classroom skills and techniques while preparing for the University of Cambridge ESOL Teaching Knowledge Test

WHEN IS THE COURSE?

From Saturday September 29th to Saturday February 2nd. 4 hours each session. Total 60 hours

WHAT DO I NEED TO TAKE PART IN THE COURSE?

If you are a Venezuelan teacher of English or you are in the last years of your career in modern languages, then this is for you!

Your level of English must be at least B2 (Common European Framework), or level, 7 or 8 of the British Council.  Your English will be evaluated with a short exam and an interview to see if you are eligible to join the course.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?
The Teaching Development Course – TKD is a part-time course. You will have 16 sessions of four hours once a week. The sessions will focus on methodology, classroom skills and techniques, language analysis and awareness and the knowledge needed by teachers. You will be set reading assignments and other tasks to complete outside of class.
WHAT ARE THE COURSE AIMS?

The Teaching Development Course – TKD is designed to:

  • Prepare trainees to take the TKT exam
  • enable trainees to better develop their learners’ language skills
  • enable trainees to produce lessons which are well-planned, logically staged and carefully timed
  • raise trainees’ awareness of features of the English language through language analysis
  • improve trainees’ classroom skills and techniques
  • develop trainees’ knowledge of concepts related to language, language use and the background to and practice of language teaching and learning
  • encourage trainees in their professional development through observation and reflection
WHAT IS INCLUDED ON THE SYLLABUS?

The course would have two basic components:

1.Preparation for the three modules of the TKT exam:

  • Module 1, language and background to language teaching and learning
  • Module 2, lesson planning and use of resources for language teaching and learning
  • Module 3, managing the teaching and learning process

2.Teaching development:

  • Situational and text based presentations of grammar
  • Teaching listening, reading, writing and speaking skills
  • Teaching vocabulary
  • Integrating skills
  • CALL (Computer Assisted Language Learning)
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Participants will be continuously assessed throughout the course on assignments and micro teaching. At the end of the course you will have the options of taking one, two or three components of the Cambridge ESOL TKT exam.

At the end of the course all participant will receive an attendance certificate for attending 80% or more of the course.

HOW MUCH DOES THE COURSE COST?

BsF. 900 for the course

BsF. 120 for each module of the TKT exam. Please note that you can take one, two or all three modules (Taking these exams is optional).

WHEN DO I HAVE TO PAY?

You can pay in two instalments. One at the beginning of the course and one in the middle

HOW CAN I JOIN THE COURSE?
