The In-service Certificate in English Language Teaching (ICELT) is a highly practical course-based award which provides in-service teacher training and development for practising English Language teachers. ICELT is ideal if you are already teaching English in a specific context — e.g. teaching adults or young learners in the private sector, teaching within a university environment, teaching primary or secondary school learners. This qualification can help you to deepen your knowledge and develop your ability to reflect on and improve your teaching.
The new ICELT Online has been designed taking into account the latest changes in education and the needs of teachers who can’t have access to teacher development opportunities due to time and distance limitations. ICELT Online will be delivered by the British Council Mexico and will lead to the In- Service Certificate in English Language Teaching which is a University of Cambridge award. It will be delivered and permanently monitored by experienced AN e-tutor team in the British Council Mexico’s Open and Distance Learning Unit. Besides individual study, candidates will work with online materials and activities especially designed for this course and will take part in weekly discussions, forums and workshops that will help them develop a reflective, self-critical attitude to enhance learning.
Course programmes are designed to reflect your specific needs and working context. The main aim is to develop your skills in the following areas:
language awareness and language use in the classroom
planning, teaching and evaluation
assessment and evaluation.
ICELT Online is a 150 hour- course organised in 5 modules of 5 weeks each one. Candidates are expected to work online about 5 hours per week. Between each module, candidates will have some time to be observed in their own teaching context, produce language tasks, methodology assignments, reflection tasks and peer observation tasks. Satisfactory completion of each course component is a requirement to continue TO the following module.
There are seven units of learning:
