ARTISTIC POLICY Volcano makes energetic, unpredictable theatre that combines strong visceral impact with intelligent text and dark absurdity. Performances are deliberately non-naturalistic, exploiting the possibilities of surprise, confrontation, and immediacy offered by live performance. The company’s repertoire includes experimental new writing and devised work, iconoclastic re-workings or deconstructions of the classics, and site-specific festival pieces.
REVIEW EXTRACTS This challenging, charismatic and suitably unclassifiable production leaves us in no doubt that books matter. The Guardian (i–witness) A show so strange that this water-drenched weirdness is an hour of intelligent insanity well worth catching. The Vancouver Sun (A Few Little Drops) Volcano’s breakneck piece of cut-and-paste Shakespeare is uniformly captivating. A sharp, witty mix of kitsch and solemnity. Venue Magazine (Romeo & Juliet)
