PERMANENT STAFF Choreographer & Administrator Tanja Råman
Sound, Video, Lighting & Publicity Designer John Collingswood
ARTISTIC POLICY Choreographer Tanja Råman and artist, DJ and filmmaker John Collingswood (d’bini industries) first started working together in 2005 with an interest in the integration of sound and movement to enhance choreographic expression. The collaboration has evolved to incorporate different media, and the simultaneous development of movement, sound, video, lighting, costume and concept has become the signature of their choreographic process.
REVIEW EXTRACTS ‘John Collingswood is the genius behind both [sound and vision]… as the live dancer interacts with the recorded one in a remarkable duet.’ David Adams, Western Mail (Kuuluako (Belonging?))
‘A striking performer….in turns eloquent, lyrical and acrobatic, classical….. sharp, spare and powerful.’ David Adams, Western Mail (Kaiho)
CURRENT PRODUCTIONS Transnatural An improvisational exploration of connections between human and animal, spirit and body, based on strong interaction between Råman’s dynamic and emotive movement and Collingswood’s organic-abstract guitar soundscape. (25 mins, 2 on stage, 2 on the road.)
Kaiku (Echo) Based on improvisation between Tanja Råman (movement), Philippa Reeves (voice) and John Collingswood (manipulated sound). A dark and powerful emotional landscape. (18 mins, 3 on stage, 3 on the road.)
Kaihokaksi (Longing2) Autobiographical solo dance in which Råman explores her displacement from one culture to another, with movement and sound that veers from delicate and lyrical to emotionally frenetic. (17 mins, 2 on stage, 2 on the road.)
Virta (Flow) Based on a multi-directional improvisation that explores the flow of energy between performers, the work integrates movement and voice with live and recorded abstract video. (25 mins, 3 on stage, 3 on the road.)
WRAP-AROUND Workshops, masterclasses, residencies and lecture demonstrations. Activities can vary from Cunningham-based technique class to improvisation sessions that utilise a live created/manipulated sonic environment.
