ARTISTIC POLICY The collaboration between Jim Parris and Xumo Nounjio reflects a joint interest in ancient African tradition. Nzi Dada explores this context and appropriates it as part of contemporary practice.
CURRENT PRODUCTIONS Ritual Imaginaire Nzi Dada’s night-time outdoor show, a powerful collision between Bantu culture and contemporary performance that combines live music and physical theatre with atmospheric lighting and sampled sound. (40 mins, 4 on stage, 8 on the road.)
Optional Groove and Functional Music A highly percussive indoor concert performance featuring double bass, African log drum, triggered samples, metallic instruments and bead shakers (75 mins, 3 on stage, 5 on the road.)
FUTURE PRODUCTIONS Nzi Dada is in the process of producing video, sound and performance pieces suitable for galleries and other locations. It is interested in commissioning and residency opportunities to develop these ideas.
WRAP-AROUND Xumo Noujio and Jim Parris are experienced workshop leaders and can also devise community performances using Nzi Dada’s highly individual performance style and techniques. Xumo Noujio is a fascinating and provocative speaker on African traditional and contemporary performance.
