ARTISTIC POLICY
NVA is an environmental arts charity creating extraordinary outdoor urban and landscape art. NVA’s mission is to take people on journeys whether physical, emotional or intellectual, to create environments in which people feel inspired to let go of the familiar. Working to create ground-breaking projects, NVA was formed to engage positively with the social, economic and cultural dynamics. It operates from an international perspective bringing together artists, musicians, designers and performers from around the world to create dynamic creative teams.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘One of the most exceptional projects of the past decade, NVA’s son-et-lumiere on the Isle of Skye transformed expectations as to how and where some of the most compelling work of our time might be made and experienced.’ Skye (The Storr: Unfolding Landscape)

‘We sat on the front stalls, a stony ledge. It really did feel as if we were looking at something happening in another world, heaven perhaps.’ The Observer (The Storr: Unfolding Landscape)

‘A new archaeological drama requires field notes, rather than programme notes, turning the countryside into the most striking stage of all.’ The Guardian Unlimited (Half Life)

CURRENT PRODUCTION
China Now To be launched in February 2008 (In Scotland), Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh. NVA will deliver the launch of this prestigious and national event in the form of a world class Chinese Spring Lantern Festival, to take place in the stunning Glasshouses and Garden over four weeks.

FUTURE PRODUCTION
Development of major new landscape work for 2009. Visit www.nva.org.uk for further details.

WRAP-AROUND
Each project includes a tailored community programme working with local providers to develop powerful lifelong learning opportunities to promote skills training and work/student placements with some of the best respected designers, technicians and project managers in the UK. This aspect of the work has had a profound effect on local capacity building on recent projects on Skye (2005) and in Glen Lyon (2000), which collectively employed an additional 60 local staff, with enthusiastic local spin-offs leading to increased cultural and educational activities post event.
