ARTISTIC POLICY
Improbable’s shows have grown out of a way of working that means being prepared to create work by the seat of your pants and the skin of your teeth, stepping onstage before you are ready and allowing the audience to have an integral part in the creation of a show.

REVIEW EXTRACTS
‘Improbable is one of the brilliant faces of British Theatre.’ The Observer

‘Embraces the imagination of its audience like no other. You will never see anything quite like this’ Time Out (Animo)

‘Anyone who has yet to grasp that theater can go places no other art form can need only experience this transporting 90 minutes, in which flesh is truly made spirit.’ The New York Times (Spirit)

CURRENT PRODUCTIONS
Animo Uses a range of everyday materials and found objects to construct an hour of improvised theatre. Working with local puppeteers and animators both in a workshop and performance context. (60 mins, 7 on stage, 8 on the road.)

Spirit Three performers struggle to tell the story of three brothers. Teasing, sad and funny, a serious joke about cycles of conflict on the personal and the global level, and maybe just a feeling about how we may break out of them. (80 mins, 3 on stage, 6 on the road.)

Lifegame A theatrical biography. The show takes the bare bones of a life story by interviewing a guest onstage and then transforming that information, there and then, into a magical piece of theatre. (110 mins, 8–9 on stage, 10–11 on road.)

FUTURE PRODUCTION
Panic A return to the spirit of Improbable’s core devised shows. The show is very early in its development but current thoughts include The Great God Pan, Michael Chekhov, bees, middle age and brown paper. There is also talk of big puppets and projection. Panic’s London premiere will be at the Barbican in April 2009.

WRAP-AROUND
Improbable works with partners to develop appropriate additional activities, predominately but not exclusively aimed at emerging practitioners.
