ARTISTIC POLICY Dog Kennel Hill Project is a collective bringing together the skills and experience of Henrietta Hale, Ben Ash and Rachel Lopez de la Nieta. The company’s goal is to create dance that surprises and intrigues, arising from a place of investigation, collaboration and risk-taking. With a curiosity towards the processes of other art forms, it embraces cross-disciplinary exchanges that allow dance to be placed in new perspectives.
REVIEW EXTRACTS ‘Their style is very easy and pleasing, swooping and graceful, laidback yet intricate… Delightful to watch and listen to.’ Lindsey Clarke, Londondance.com (In This World)
‘This was amusing, with committed, amusing performances. Baffling, but watchable.’ Londondance.com (Man or Fish)
‘Hale showed her talent for exposing the comedy and poignancy of the most simple gesture.’ Sophie Hansen, Resolution review (On the road to….)
CURRENT PRODUCTIONS The Odd Honesty Code In a makeshift Foley studio, four dancers tell and retell mythical stories: movement, live sound, music, and text are woven together to create mysterious shifting perspectives and intriguing scenarios. (45 mins, no interval, 4 on stage, 6 on the road.)
Man or Fish Two men are placed within a series of tightly framed experiments in a metaphorical bell-jar. Their ritual serves to draw out their vulnerability, and the absurdity of their efforts to communicate. (17 mins, 2 on stage, 6 on the road.)
A Cross and Then Across Centered around the word “devotion”, the work has an epic sense of ritual, explored simultaneously through a solo and a duet. One forms a framework/backdrop from which to view the other. (15 mins, 3 on stage, 4 on the road.)
WRAP-AROUND Wrap around activities include: post performance discussions that unravel the ideas, processes and collaborative method that make-up and emerge from the work; 2–3 hour workshop/masterclassess that can be adapted for schools (age 15+) or professionals, based either on The Odd Honesty Code or Man or Fish; residencies for groups that involve working through a creative process for a period with the option of leading to a performance opportunity.
