ARTISTIC POLICY Action Hero makes live art and performance that seeks to use audiences as collaborators and co-conspirators. The company is interested in creating work that links audiences together and unifies them as part of the live event, building a temporary community. Its current interests lie in work that re-writes landscapes and encourages audiences to reconsider the spaces around them.
REVIEW EXTRACTS ‘The atmosphere throughout the performance was incredible.’ Epigram magazine (A Western)
CURRENT PRODUCTIONS A Western Scenes from an imaginary western are enacted, in collaboration with the audience, in a celebration of generic heroes, cheap whores and the failure of the all-American idol. A performance for a bar or similar public space. (50 mins, 2 on stage, 2 on the road.)
To My Island A sited piece for a traffic island or roundabout, audience members take part in a journey to find paradise in the city. (45 mins, 2 on stage, 2 on the road.)
History In an attempt to learn 200,000 years of “things that are important”, a to-scale timeline is drawn and history is remembered and filled in by both audience and performers inside a black-box turned blackboard. (60 mins, 2 on stage, 2 on the road.)
FUTURE PRODUCTION How To Disappear Performers and audience members hide together in cupboards and small spaces and together they discover what it is they’re hiding from. Available from March 2008. (60 mins, 2 on stage, 2 on the road.)
WRAP-AROUND Workshops, pre- and post-performance discussions, lecture demonstrations. Performance lectures.
