partnerships

Through working with partners, our cultural relations work has greater impact and we provide more opportunities for British writers to engage with international audiences.

During South Africa Market Focus at The London Book Fair, we worked with over 40 partners to create the cultural programme, One Nation, Many Voices.  Of these organisations 17 were based in South Africa and 27 in the UK.  We worked with a wide range of partners including government, trusts and foundations, universities, publishers, business, arts organisations, book festivals and book fairs.  We have established successful relationships and work frequently with many organisations, but we continue to seek new opportunities and many new partnerships were brokered for One Nation, Many Voices.

The South African Department of Arts and Culture and the skills development authority MAPPP-SETA each committed to support ten small publishers' and ten writers' attendance at the Book Fair.  The programme opened with a reception hosted by the South African High Commission and over 60 events were curated jointly with organisations such as Commonwealth Foundation, Canon Collins Trust, Newcastle University, South Bank Centre, International PEN, Wales Arts International, Writers' Centre Norwich, Edinburgh International Book Festival, and many others.  Through these partnerships One Nation, Many Voices reached audiences in six cities in the UK.
