The fashion show reflected the street culture of the two locations as seen by the visiting designers. The two Hong Kong graduates named their collections "Royal" and "Nightlife", as a result of their inspiration from the "royal" influence one saw in London and the kind of clubbing culture the other experienced in London. Andi Harrison named her collection "Destroy to create" and Amrik Chagger named his "Contemporary Confusion". Over the last six months the designers have travelled to the respective countries, walked the streets and tasted the food of the country for inspiration for their collections. Winner of the FHM Young Tailor of the Year Award 2000, Amrik featured tree-like headgear, Chinese calligraphy and traditional bird cages in his collection. It was based on the past of Hong Kong and its cultural distinctions, creating a contemporary vision for the future of Hong Kong. Andi captured another side of the street culture of Hong Kong. She used the deconstruction technique by tearing apart the old materials and re-assembling them with new elements in order to create her collection. Apart from the fashion show, this project also incorporated a photo exhibition that featured photographs from documentary photographer Agnes Chen, who captured British punk culture. The Hong Kong office also invited over 20 City University fashion photography students to come and take photos of the fashion show. Project Manager: Emily Campbell |
