Fashion design & production workshop - Estonia
Estonia has a very large garment manufacturing industry and an established fashion design education system, but the relationship between industry and design is weak.

In order to help develop this relationship, the British Council in Talinn organised two days of workshops in March 2001 for designers and manufacturers in the fashion industry. Marks & Spencer's named designer line, Autograph, was presented as a case study in using design to add value to mass-produced clothing. The workshop was led by Rachel Smith, Autograph's Product Developer, Sonja Nutall, one of Autograph's named designers, and Ashley Connell, a manufacturing supplier to Marks & Spencer.

The workshop participants were given a brief in advance to design a collection of six garments. Their final presentation was to include designs, critical path (considering fabric lead times, samples for fit and press, etc.), selling plan, price point offer and marketing plan.
