Mind the gap: new technologies and teacher training

San Nicolás, 20-30 January 2009

The Hornby Educational Trust, with the British Council, co-funds Hornby Regional Schools for English language teachers round the world.

The schools have provided training and development opportunities for over 1,200 teachers and have been a great success. The importance of the schools goes beyond the purely professional - they are essentially meeting places where teachers and trainers from different cultures and countries come together, engage in dialogue and forge shared experiences. Teachers return home with a greater understanding of their neighbours and with a desire to continue to work together with their new international colleagues.

The 2009 Hornby Regional School proposes to focus on the role played by new technologies in pre-service training and how they can be used to enhance the training of English language teachers. In Latin America and the Caribbean, like in so many other parts of the world, where technology is available, it appears to be more advanced than teachers’ skills to use it.  Is the future generation of English language teachers being trained for a world that has gone? The school provides a forum for showcasing specific innovation in this sector, analysing the links between policy and practice and identifying the main issues and trends linked to the diversification of delivery models for English language teacher training.

Participants, from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico and Venezuela  are selected through an open application process. If you would like to apply as a participant, please check the links below.
