The overall purpose of this seminar was to explore the "European Dimension" and what it means to embed this in the higher education curriculum in each of the three degree cycles. In particular, the seminar set out to address the following questions:
What do we understand by “the European Dimension”? To what extent is this generic or subject related? Is it necessary to make this explicit? If not, to what extent will students be conscious of it? Is this an individual, a subject or an institutional responsibility? What are the implications for students, staff, employers and professional and regulatory bodies?
The seminar was attended by Bologna Experts, Curriculum Tuning Experts, National Agency representatives and Student and Professional body representatives from France, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania and the UK.
The programme, which combined plenary presentations and small group discussions, was designed to explore the topic from three distinct perspectives - the individual, the subject and the institutional (although in practice these distinctions proved hard to maintain). Each perspective was introduced by a presentation, which suggested questions for the group discussion that followed. Feedback from the working groups was, in turn, the subject of further plenary discussion, the outcomes of which are included in the final report.
