Students and staff with a severe disability or exceptional special needs may be entitled to extra funding to cover associated costs on their Erasmus placement. The Institution’s Erasmus co-ordinator is responsible for ensuring all the necessary paperwork is completed and arrangements are made at the host institution to meet the needs of the student. Students who need to apply for a special needs allowance should do so via their home Institution before the start of the academic year in which the mobility activity is scheduled to take place. The Erasmus Co-ordinator will need to complete the Annex for Disability or Exceptional Special Needs as part of the application process.

Disability directory for LEA Awards Officers: Fifth Edition is available on the administrators and LEA pages of the DfES website. In keeping with the arrangements for making available LEA guidance chapters, LEAs and HEIs are asked to access the Directory via their website. It is designed to help Awards Officers make informed and consistent decisions when dealing with applications for student support involving Disabled Students' Allowances (DSAs). The Directory cannot cover all individual circumstances, and it is not designed to do so. Decisions on whether to make a DSA payment to a student as part of their student support rests with the Awards Officer, whose decision should be based on the evidence presented in the case. The Directory offers advice on where further help might be sought on individual cases.
