If you are working with young people in schools, help them broaden their horizons by encouraging them to take part in Erasmus when they go on to higher education.

Students who enroll at a Higher Education Institution in the UK and wish to undertake a study or a work placement for between three months and an academic year in an EU, EEA, or candidate country can participate in the Erasmus Programme. See our section on where you can go for a full list of countries that are involved.

Students from all subject areas can participate, from art to zoology, biology to psychology. Erasmus is not just for language students and prior knowledge of the language, although recommended, is not always essential as many countries offer courses taught in English.

Ensure when students are choosing where to study after leaving school that they check that the college and the course they want to do allows them to take part in the Erasmus programme.

You and your pupils can read first hand accounts from former Erasmus students in our Case Study section.

If you have a careers information day for year 12 and 13 students, you can request a visit from a former Erasmus student to bring the programme to life. Email us with your requirements and the date of your event, and we will endeavour to find a speaker. Alternatively, why not contact your local higher education college and university directly, to see if they can send you a student to come and give a talk? You may also like to see our Erasmus overview presentation or download our video and promotional leaflets and posters.

You may also be interested in the Comenius programme. Comenius provides funding for partnerships between schools, colleges and local authorities across Europe as well as for professional development for educational staff. There are great opportunities to travel in Europe and share knowledge and experience with peers, which truly enhance teaching and learning.

If you are still at school and haven’t yet decided on your higher education institution and course, it’s very important that you do your homework first to ensure you don’t miss out on Erasmus once you get to college. So check with your chosen UK institution first before enrolling and read our Student Programmes section to find out more about your future options.
