Europe and Central Asia 2002

Project proposals are assessed by the ELTeCS Europe and Central Asia project proposal evaluation committee. The committee consists of the Co-ordinator, Manager English Language Networking, and regional ELTeCS representatives.

ELTeCS project funding results autumn 2002

1. Cross cultural business communication project

Project manager: Silva Bratoz, Slovenia
Teachers from: Austria, Croatia, Estonia, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Romania, Slovenia and Switzerland
Aims:

To complement and extend a successful Leonardo da Vinci project (Cross-cultural Business Communication - CCBC) by piloting the materials produced
To incorporate two new partners in the extended international network of institutions, trainers and students
To provide participants with an objective view of their work through piloting and evaluation activities
To make and consider suggestions for improvements of the materials
To contribute to the development of an interactive CD with exercises for students
To improve quality of networking and create greater opportunities for dissemination of lessons learned
To enhance the quality of the activities carried out
To enable the participants to acquire a thorough insight into methods of setting up a business English course based on simulations of realistic business practices, with implications of intercultural issues arising from an international network of teachers and students
2. Regional ICT networks

Project manager: Imre Szabo, Hungary
Teachers from: Croatia, Hungary, Romania, Serbia
Aims:

To share and extend experience of using the Internet in English language teaching in order to increase the effectiveness of the teaching/learning process
To facilitate the exchange of information and networking among teachers and trainers interested in using information technologies in their teaching
To exploit the potential of a regional team of teachers created at the Hornby Regional School 2002 in Hungary and develop their training skills

3. Hornby Schools - passing the baton

Project manager: Csilla Hos, Hungary
Teachers from: Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and elsewhere in central and eastern Europe and the Baltic States
Aims:

To capture and pass on to successor countries in Europe and to language teaching professionals worldwide the experience Hungarian INSET trainers have gained in organising Hornby schools for Central and Eastern Europe, to ensure that:

the 2003 and 2004 Hornby European series offer the highest possible quality professional experience for participants, tutors and organisers
the innovative methodology and philosophy of the Hungarian model of multi-national, regional school is disseminated
organisers of professional development schools and similar events worldwide, Hornby-funded or otherwise, have access to and benefit from the lessons learnt in Europe
4. IATEFL planning

Project manager: Roy Cross, Croatia
Teachers from: throughout Europe
Aims:

To bring together at least 500 newly qualified teachers (NQTs) from all over Europe via an IATEFL-e 2003 event
To form an IATEFL-e 2003 programme committee and agree individual responsibilities and timetable of action
To ensure a core group of 30 professionals is bonded, focused and motivated, to ensure success of IATEFL-e 2003 in September 2003
5. Workshop: Video techniques necessary to create better films for ELT purposes

6. Workshop: Developing writing materials for students of ESP in central and eastern Europe
Project manager: Lyudmila Kuznetsova, Russia
Teachers from:
Aims:

To produce a set of high quality materials to teach writing skills in ESP, which will meet the demands of local curricula
To set up a framework and make a plan of action for the piloting of the materials in the participants’ institutions
To create a cross-regional team of colleagues to do the piloting
To trial the materials in student groups in the participants’ home countries
To revise the materials and disseminate them via the existing ESP networks
To promote networking and exchange of materials among members of the ESP community in the region
