IATEFL CARDIFF ROVING REPORTERS AND IATEFL CARDIFF ONLINE WEBSITE
Dear ELTeCS members,
1) Natalia Eydelman, Russia and Yuliya Ivanova, Ukraine are this year's winners of the IATEFL Roving Reporters' competition. Congratulations to them both! You will be able to meet Natalia and Yuliya soon, in March, in the teaching English website at http://www.teachingenglish.org.uk/think/conferences/iatefl-2009 and in the IATEFL Cardiff Online website at http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009/
Both Natalia and Yuliya will be reporting from the IATEFL Cardiff conference, Tuesday 31 March to Saturday 4 April, in the Cardiff Online website (at http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009), which is already live and will be fully functional from 1 March when pre-conference special interest group discussions start in advance of the conference.
2) There were entries from over 40 countries again for the Roving Reporters competition this year, and the standard of the entries was, as ever, extremely high. We enjoyed reading the entries, which were about conferences, workshops and other professional events that participants had attended or been part of in other ways. We would like to say a special thank you to all the competition participants, and we hope that many will be able to draw on their writing talents again, by contributing to the discussions in Cardiff Online.
By way of a small thank you, we are sending each competition participant a copy of the British Council's Teaching Speaking book and DVD; the British Council/BBC Teaching English website CD; plus the IATEFL Online DVD, which brings together a selection of videos of presentations from last year's conference in Exeter, and provides information about this year's conference in Cardiff. The DVD is also available online at http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/dvd
3) Please check out the Cardiff Online website at http://iatefl.britishcouncil.org/2009
- visit regularly and keep up with the conference as it happens via Natalia's and Yuliya's blogs, and via the many presentations by ELT speakers from around the world, several of which will be videoed, and all of which will be accompanied by the speakers' powerpoints
- take part in the ongoing special interest group discussions - these will start before the conference begins, and will continue for several weeks afterwards; they are a great place to learn from your peers around the world and make new friends online.
Start your IATEFL Conference experience with Cardiff Online from 1 March!
With best wishes - Penny
