Medical qualifications
We can help you to take medical qualifications with some of the UK's most prestigious medical organisations. You can register directly with the bodies in the UK, or through institutions in Egypt offering courses connected to these awards. We will then arrange the examinations in Egypt.
MRCP

Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians (MRCP) is a common membership shared between the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow and the Royal College of Physicians of London.

In the UK, the MRCP examination is recognised as an entry qualification for higher specialist training for doctors willing to become specialists’ registrars. It does not confer specialist status.

The MRCP(UK) Examination consists of three parts. In the UK it is usually taken during the period of general professional training (GPT) in medicine which follows registration with the General Medical Council of the United Kingdom. GPT normally lasts at least two years. The MRCP(UK) Diploma does not, therefore, confer specialist status: in the UK it is recognised as an entry qualification for higher specialist training.

For further information please visit the MRCP website or contact us. You can also view the Frequently Asked Questions.

MRCPCH

Membership of the Royal College of Paediatric and Child Health (MRCPCH) is the examination for the Diploma of Membership of the RCPCH and is usually taken during the period of basic specialist training, which in the UK normally lasts for 2-3 years.

The MRCPCH is the normal entry requirement for Higher Specialist Training in Paediatrics. Each examination is taken in sequence, with success in one leading to a timed registration period of entry into the next examination.  Successfully completing the MRCPCH Clinical allows for entry to membership of the College. There are three sittings of each examination per year.

The MRCPCH does not confer specialist status. In the UK, it is recognised as an entry qualification for higher specialist training.

The MRCPCH examination replaced the MRCP (UK) examination in paediatrics and since June 1999 the MRCPCH Part 1 has been run and offered only by the RCPCH. However, the Part 2 paediatric examination will continue to be a joint examination between RCPCH and UK RCPs until the end of 2003 to accommodate those doctors who have passed Part 1 of the MRCP (UK) Paediatrics and have been given seven years to pass.

For further information please visit the RCPCH Website or contact us. You can also view the Frequently Asked Questions.

THE PLAB TEST

The Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) test is the main route by which International Medical Graduates (IMGs) demonstrate that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to practice medicine in the UK.

Postgraduate medical studies in the UK can be very rewarding, and a great boost for your career.

To practise medicine in the UK, doctors who hold an acceptable medical qualification from medical schools outside the European Economic Area can apply for limited registration with the General Medical Council (GMC). However, they must provide objective evidence of their ability to practise medicine in the UK. One of the routes towards getting limited registration with the GMC is by taking the Professional and Linguistic Assessment Board (PLAB) test. Part 1 of the PLAB test can be taken in Egypt and Part 2 is taken in the UK.

Part 1 is held in Cairo twice a year.
The deadline for registration is 8 weeks prior to the test date. The dates for 2010 are:

Test dates
Tuesday 11 February 2010
Closing date (overseas): 17 December 2009

FRCOphth

The Fellowship Examination of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) examination is recognised as an exit qualification for doctors in training.  It does not confer specialist status and does not entitle the holder to a training post in the UK.

The Part 1 FRCOphth can be taken at any time following registration (i.e. after F1 year), but passing this examination at such an early stage is inadvisable. Selection into ophthalmic specialist training cannot take into account the fact that you have passed this exam. You will have a large number of generic competencies to get through in your Foundation Years and you are advised to concentrate on these skills and wait until you are in OST until you attempt any College exams.

The FRCOphth examination consists of 3 components: Part 1 FRCOphth, Refraction Certificate and Part 2 FRCOphth.  The Part 1 FRCOphth is a written theoretical examination that is held in Cairo three times a year.  The Refraction Certificate and Part 2 FRCOphth examination are sat in the UK.

You can also download the application form.

For further information please visit the RCOphth website or contact us. You can also view our Frequently Asked Questions.
