What are Cambridge Young Learner English Tests?

Cambridge Young Learner Tests are fun and motivating for children. At the same time, they give parents an accurate assessment of their child’s English language skills.

The exams test how well your child uses English to communicate by testing the four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking.

There is no pass/fail result. All children receive a certificate indicating how well they have done in each skill area.

Cambridge Young Learner Tests run throughout the year, on demand.

Schools groups and other groups of more than ten candidates can choose their own test date (subject to examiner availability).  We need you to confirm your chosen date eight weeks in advance.

How would it help my child?

Tests are specially designed for children aged between seven and 12 years. They test your children’s English through interesting and colourful tasks suitable for their age. Below are the details for the three levels available:

How can I prepare my child for these tests?

Parents and teachers can find all the information they need to help their child start preparing for YLE Tests in the Cambridge ESOL candidate Support site
