What is IELTS?

IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an English language test which assesses the ability of the candidate in the four language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Each skill is assessed and rated from one (non-user) to nine (expert user).

All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking Modules and then choose between either Academic or General Training Reading and Writing modules. Academic is suitable for candidates planning to undertake higher education study. General Training is suitable for the candidates planning to undertake non-academic training or work experience, or for immigration purposes.

IELTS is administered by three leading international organisations: the British Council, IDP Education Australia and the UCLES (University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate).

We now have computer-based Academic IELTS
It consists of the Listening, Reading and Writing sections of the tests. All IELTS Speaking will still be conducted face-to-face. The CB IELTS will be offered once each month at our centre.

Please note that initially CB IELTS is only available in the Academic module. For further information about CB IELTS, Please view the FAQ.

Who is IELTS for?

If you are going to study in the UK, Australia, New Zealand or Canada, an IELTS test result is accepted as evidence that you have the language skills needed for your course of study at most academic institutions. American academic institutions are increasingly accepting IELTS for admission purposes also.

IELTS is accepted by many professional organisations including the New Zealand Immigration Service, the Australian Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, the Australian Medical Council, the UK General Medical Council and the UK Ministry of Defence.

Many other organisations around the world use IELTS for other purposes such as entry onto training courses or work placement schemes.

How do I register for IELTS?

You need

a copy of the application form (which can be downloaded)
two recent photos with white background (taken within the last three months)
