What else happnes in the YLC?

Reading Discussion Group

This is held on monthly basis. Students express themselves through an open discussion about books, and their latest readings through re-telling stories.

Art and Craft Club

Activities are related to monthly themes. The objective of the club is to teach children how to make objects using household materials, recycling, and be creative.

UK Reading Challenge

As a contribution to the success of the reading challenge 2008 that took place in winter, ‘Team Read’ will continue this summer. Successful challengers will receive prizes on books they have read, in addition to a certificate and a medal.

For winter 2009, the Reading Challenge is called ‘Quest Seekers’. The theme is all about the power of the imagination. It will take young readers into a mysterious and wondrous land where they can discover the joy of reading and nurture a life-long love affair with books. It's an amazing fantasy reading adventure with a firebird, a giant and a fire-breathing dragon. Check the official website for this international Reading Challenge

Young Learners Art Competition

The Art Competition 2009 is open to British Council Young Learner students.

The three winners (one from each age group) will then have the chance to enter their picture into the Global Young Learners Art Competition. This will be held in London, involving students from all over the world. The winning three pictures, as well as three runners-up from each age group, will be displayed in promotional materials relating to our 75th anniversary celebrations.
