Skills for Employability is a British Council programme that addresses the demand for skills in a global economy so that national educational and training systems are better able to respond to labour market demands and learner needs.
The programme focuses on building strong relationships with industry and employers, governments and training providers, using the UK’s expertise on standards, innovation and creativity in the field of skills training
The programme does not deliver skills training directly but delivers activity in the following areas:
Policy dialogue: We bring together international agencies, governments and educational institutions to explore how to improve skills and employability. |
Professional networks: We build links between leading experts in the UK and the region to share best practice in the vocational education and training sector. |
Institutional partnerships: We cultivate partnerships between UK and the region’s Further and Higher Education institutions to boost employability and entrepreneurship skills |
Enterprise and technology awards: We organise international competitions for young people that highlight excellence in enterprise, innovation and technology. |
To achieve the programme’s aims, we are engaging in a series of activities and conferences throughout the year that highlight the main themes and areas of delivery. These include:
Quality Assurance Conferences
The event will address how best to ensure quality in skills education for the institution and for workforce development. It will showcase good practice both in the UK and across the two regions; examine the key challenges facing countries in improving the quality of skills education; and explore potential solutions and ways of cooperating between the countries of the regions and between the UK and the regions. The event will highlight related work in the areas of employer engagement, curriculum development, teacher training and occupational standards. It will focus on identifying practical recommendations to advance the delivery of better skills education in the region and on identifying potential pilot projects in the field of assuring and improving quality in skills education.
A Quality Assurance event will take place in Egypt in November 2009 followed by the Quality assurance Conference in Jordan in December 2009, the Employer Engagement Conference in Egypt followed by the Learning and Technology Forum in the UK during January 2010, as well as the British Education and Training Technology (BETT) study tour also around this date in the UK.
