In collaboration with BP Egypt, the Cambridge Overseas Trust offers a number of scholarships annually to enable graduates of outstanding academic merit to pursue courses of study or research in subjects to be considered on their merits at the University of Cambridge.
The scholarships are open to citizens of Egypt who already have, or expect to obtain before October 2008, a first class or, exceptionally, a high second class honors degree or its equivalent from a recognized university.
Scholarships are offered for graduates to pursue a one-year postgraduate course of study. The scholarships, tenable for one year, will normally cover the University Composition Fee at the overseas rate, approved College fees, a maintenance allowance sufficient for a single student (no dependants’ allowances will be paid) and a contribution towards a round-trip airfare.
Scholarships are offered for graduates to pursue a course of research leading to the degree of PhD. The scholarships, tenable for up to three years, will normally cover the University Composition Fee at the approved rate, approved College fees, a maintenance allowance sufficient for a single student (no dependants’ allowances will be paid) and a contribution towards a round-trip airfare. Applicants must apply for an ORS award, which pays the difference between the home and overseas rate.
Preference will be given to candidates seeking degrees in petroleum related areas, as well as economics and development studies.
Successful candidates must sign, before their departure to Cambridge, an enrollment agreement whereby they will agree to return back, domicile and work in Egypt after their graduation from the University of Cambridge for double the period they studied at the University of Cambridge.
By virtue of this enrollment agreement, successful candidates, upon return to Egypt, may be required to work - based on their field of study and the existing need at the time - for a period to be determined by BP at any Egyptian governmental entity that BP may deem appropriate and relevant to the candidate’s field of study or at BP or any of its affiliates.
BP holds the right to apply exceptions to the above conditions as the company sees appropriate.
For Admission and for Funding from the Trusts All applicants must complete a new Graduate Application Form (GRADSAF), which includes the Cambridge Trusts’ Scholarship Application Form, to apply to the University of Cambridge for admission and to the Trusts for awards, including the BP Cambridge Scholarships for Egypt.
The GRADSAF is included in the paper copy of the Graduate Studies Prospectus; it can also be downloaded and is available to complete on-line

Candidates applying for a course of research leading to the degree of PhD must also apply for an ORS award, which is funded by the UK Government and pays the difference between the higher overseas and lower domestic rate of the University Composition Fee. Please refer to the Graduate Studies Prospectus for details on how to apply for an ORS award.
