The Connecting Classrooms project developed by the British Council is a school partnership project at the international level aiming at finding sustainable and beneficial participations for schools between the United Kingdom and other regions of the world. Such partnerships help to build trust and understanding among individuals in communities and increase cultural and educational awareness needed by youth to accompany their experience to be more knowledgeable citizens and actual contributors to daily life and work towards the improvement of the welfare of Libyan society.
The project has three core components which will be delivered in Libya. Those are Professional development for internationalising education, International School Award and Collaborative curriculum projects, under which falls the area of cooperation among students in Science, Maths, Arabic, English and for the purpose of this paper in environmental sciences and climate change.
The 3-year Connecting Classrooms project was officially launched in Libya on Tuesday, 16 June following an agreement between the General People's Committee for Education and Scientific Research and the British Council to cooperate in education through the British Council's global Connecting Classrooms project. This large scale project will involve 6 Libyan schools this year working with British schools on 4 main themes, Maths, Science, Climate Change and Languages.
Connecting Classrooms works towards encouraging global citizens and enabling intercultural dialogue: Connecting Classrooms strengthens understanding and levels of trust between people in the UK and other societies throughout the world.
In all regions of the world, Connecting Classrooms increases the ability of individuals and organisations to contribute to positive social change and the strengthening of civil society.
