Increasing effectiveness in all sectors

Our work in social development makes projects and programmes in all sectors more effective through a focus on people.  Social development is central to basic rights, poverty reduction, social inclusion, empowerment and equity.

What we offer

We have in-house expertise and have access to UK and international organisations working in social development. We have experience of supporting the social development aspects of work in different sectors, as well as managing projects and programmes focusing on social issues. Our staff are skilled in managing support to development.

How we work

We work to develop mutual respect between stakeholders in keeping with best development practice. We will involve project stakeholders in design, implementation and monitoring.  We form genuine partnerships, and support learning as a two-way process.

We give access to UK reformist social traditions and current expertise. We draw on UK and global best practice, adapting our approaches to suit our partners' circumstances.

Much of our work involves facilitating links and networks among civil society organisations, central government bodies and institutions such as the media.

What we do

Social development cuts across all human development initiatives. We promote the best of UK values such as tolerance and pluralism in all work.

We provide project management services in:

civil society development
poverty reduction
social sector policy
social protection and security
social inclusion and protection of the rights of vulnerable groups
gender equity
sustainable livelihoods
conflict resolution and protection from violence
participatory democracy, citizenship, and empowerment of poor people.

Examples of our work

View examples of our support to projects working to improve equity and inclusion, including support to the Social Action Programme, Pakistan, and dealing with violence in schools, South Africa.
