Each year we bring experts to Denmark to take part in seminars and other events which focus on the interaction between government and society. In addition we invite key Danes who are working in these areas to take part in seminars and other events in the UK to share their knowledge and experience.
We always work in partnership with Danish organisations. This is the best way to ensure that our work in this area reflects a genuine interest in Denmark in the UK experience. It also encourages a dialogue and exchange of ideas between professionals in our two countries. We work often more than a year in advance in developing the idea of a project with our Danish partner.
Particular areas of shared interest for us and our Danish partners are social inclusion and citizenship education, for example:
We arranged in June 2006 a study tour for the Danish State Employers' Authority for senior officials responsible for recruitment in the Danish Ministry of Education, the Danish Armed Forces and the Danish Police Force to look at British approaches to integrating diversity policies in their recruitment policies and processes
Earlier, in January 2006, we arranged another study tour to key UK institutions and schools to look at approaches to citizenship education as part of a project designed to develop citizenship education teaching materials for teachers which is administered by the Danish Institute for Human Rights and funded by the Danish Ministry for Refugee, Immigration and Integration Affairs.
In October 2002 we arranged in co-operation with the Danish Institute for Human Rights and the Danish National Innovative Centre for General Education a three-day seminar which addressed approaches to and the challenges of issues of democracy and cultural diversity in schools.
If you have a suggestion for a project where the UK experience in the area of social inclusion or citizenship education might be of interest and contrtibute to the work of your organisation or profession, please contact us: info@britishcouncil.dk
