University of Basrah Visiting Fellowships at LSE Global Governance, London School of Economics and Political Science

Project summary: This project aims to provide opportunities for training and knowledge-sharing by inaugurating Basra Visiting Fellowships at LSE Global Governance. The visiting fellows will be given access to LSE’s learning resources, will be introduced to contacts in the international research arena and benefit from close supervision and mentoring by their LSE colleagues.

Midwifery Curriculum for the Kurdistan Region at Hawler Medical University

Project summary: This partnership is developing a curriculum for the midwifery programme at Hawler Medical University and updating methods of teaching and assessment.

Improving the quality of medical education at Baghdad University College of Medicine

Project summary: This project aims to modernise medical education at Baghdad University College of Medicine by introducing modern, interactive, student-based learning, establishing a research element to the programme of study and by initiating changes to the exam system using competency-based assessments such as the Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE).

Virtual Centre for Telecommunication Research VICTOR

Project summary: This partnership brings together researchers from the UK and Iraq to initiate the first research centre for communications in Iraq. The centre will dedicated towards conduct and disseminate world-class research in communications.

Transforming undergraduate clinical skills practical procedure teaching through friendship and collaborative working.

Project summary: This project is working to develop a viable clinical skills laboratory, to share Cardiff University's e-learning material with Hawler Medical University, and to create a long term, mutually beneficial partnership between the two institutions.

Developing student centred learning at Hawler Medical University

Project summary: This project aims to meet the needs of Hawler Medical University through practical training and support of key staff to enhance their teaching practice and develop a 'student centred learning' approach.

Clinical Nursing Education Programme

Project summary: This project aims to strengthen the capacity of nursing education provided by Hawler Medical University and in turn enhance the quality of nursing care provided to patients in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

A programme for developing academic curricula, research culture and capacity building at the Engineering College in Babylon University

Project summary: This partnership is working to develop the curricula of BSc, MSc and PhD studies at Babylon University's Engineering College. It will also establish new programmes in Engineering College at BU in the fields of Environmental Engineering, Renewable Energy, and Aerospace Engineering, as well as building research capacity at Babylon.

Developing research and curricula at the University of Anbar - Iraq in collaboration with Liverpool John Moores University

Project summary: This project will transfer knowledge in teaching and research in Computing and Mathematical Sciences and enhance and broaden the research capacity within the fields of computer science at Anbar.

Development of forensic science curriculum and scoping of need to create a centre of excellence.

Project summary: The team at De Montfort University will provide training in forensic science knowledge to a group of academics from Karbala University. The partnership will develop course curricular to teach forensic science at Karbala and it is envisaged that a centre of excellence in forensic training could be developed.

Developing a Core Syllabus for English Degree Programmes at the University of Kufa

Project summary: The project aims to develop a core syllabus comprising elements of English language, linguistics and intercultural communication which may form the basis of degree programmes in English literature, linguistics and language teaching at the University of Kufa.  A further objective is to integrate English language provision with subject content from an early stage.

Buidling Faculty and Organisational Development Capacity of Iraqi Universities

Project summary: The University of Duhok and University of Baghdad will partner with Michigan State University to enhance the capacity and quality of Iraqi Faculty Development Centres.

Using Educational Drama and Theatre to introduce active learning and interactions in Basra University

Project summary: This partnership will explore the ways in which interactive theatre can contribute to the transformation of the teaching-learning environment in an Iraqi university. The project seeks to implement the kind of theatrical practice and pedagogical methods that modify awareness and behaviour.

Inclusive education, intercultural competence, and democratic citizenship in teacher education. A joint action project between the University of Duhok and Buskerud University College, Norway.

Project summary: This project is developing the quality of teaching, learning and research in connection with school development and education for children’s rights and democratic citizenship. It focuses on student-centred learning, inclusive education, empowerment, intercultural competence, and exploring ways of developing joint research projects.

Reading University – Diyala University Chemistry Infrastructure Liason

Project summary: Diyala University aims to reinstate a fully equipped Chemistry Department and to support this 10 academics from Diyala will spend one month (visiting in pairs) at the Chemistry Department at Reading where they will attend undergraduate lectures workshops and tutorials and shadow senior members of staff demonstrating to laboratory classes. They will also be trained on state-of-the–art spectrometers and analytical equipment in the Chemical Analysis Facility housed within the Department. Three members of academic staff from Reading will deliver a series of intensive workshops for up to 25 staff from Diyala.
